Hello again

23 May

Aaaand I’m back, after a finals/initial summer laziness crash-induced break. Just in time for almost all of my shows to be off the air, sadly, leaving me with a four + month wait to find out how the whole Morgan being the new intersect thing is going to work out; how the heck Fringe is going to deal with the Peter-not-existing business; who is pregnant on Gossip Girl and whether Blair will ever man up and stop running back to Chuck; and so on and so forth (thank goodness for cliffhanger-less shows like Modern Family). But at least the mostly-barren summer TV landscape promises one thing: So You Think You Can Dance! It finally comes back on Thursday and I can’t wait. Here’s hoping they got rid of the whole all stars thing this season. And that the audition episodes will go by quickly so we can get to the good stuff.

Of course, summer also means upfronts, which means previews of all the shows for next season. Some look good, some look bad, and some look really bad, but I’m going to give a few of them a chance. The one I really want to talk about, though, is Smash. Here’s the preview:

Now, I guess this is NBC’s grown up answer to Glee, and it looks like it could be good. And, hopefully, it’ll actually contain things like a plot that makes sense, continuity, and character development–things that Glee has been lacking for a long time. It even has the mom from Freaks and Geeks! But I have one serious complaint: Katherine McPhee (the brunette) is a good singer. But in what universe could she ever beat Megan Hilty (the blonde) for anything, ever? Maybe I’m biased, because Megan Hilty played Glinda when I saw Wicked and she was amazing, but seriously. No. Way. But the way it’s being set up makes it seem like she’s going to. I’ll reserve judgment until I see the actual show (maybe they’ll make Megan tone down her awesomeness, or something), but this is going to take a serious suspension of disbelief.

You need to watch Kat sing with Andrea Bocelli, Chris Botti, David Foster and of course, by herself on Youtube! Then you will get why everyone is so enamored with Kat! This preview did not show Kat at her finest!
